I just deleted six years’ worth of blogs!
Let me take you back to the beginning. I joined social media in 2017, and since then, I’ve written books—fiction and non-fiction—blogged regularly, created various products, and even dabbled in becoming a YouTuber. Some of the things I shared during that time I still stand behind, especially the writing tips. Others make me cringe. That’s why I decided to do a cleanse.
From 2017 to 2022, the core of my platform was built around promoting the law of attraction. I shared advice on how to manifest a better life, and in doing so, I led people astray. I won’t unpack all of that here, but if you’re curious about the journey, what happened, and where I am now, you can watch this video.
This post isn’t about that. It’s about the cleanse.
As I sat there deleting each blog, one at a time, it hit me; this is exactly how so many people think coming to Christ works. They believe they have to clean up their lives first, fix every mistake, and somehow become worthy before they can come to Him.
But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
No amount of cleansing will ever make us good enough. We are imperfect. We are sinners. And no matter how hard we try, we will never be perfect.
So should we waste our time trying to clean up our mess before coming to Jesus?
Absolutely not.
2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
That’s good news. It means that once we come to Christ, then we are made new. And although your past doesn’t change, your present and future certainly do. I know this from experience; when you follow Jesus, everything changes. Your desires, your heart, your motivations. All of it begins to shift.
And while I was able to delete those blogs, the truth remains. I wrote them. I promoted things that were not of Christ. There is guilt and shame attached to that, and deleting them didn’t erase the past. But I came to Christ anyway. Right in the middle of my mess.
So if I didn’t try to clean myself up before coming to Christ, what did I do?
I repented.
To repent means to stop and turn away. That’s what I did. I turned away from things that weren’t of God.
Was it easy? Some things, yes. Others, I wrestled with.
When I first started following Christ, it didn’t even occur to me to unpublish my books, videos, or blogs. But the deeper I walked with Him, the clearer those things became. Eventually, unpublishing them was easy.
So here’s my advice to you. If you’re struggling today because you feel like you’re not good enough, please come as you are to Christ. He will change everything. He will give you a new heart.
The cleansing will come after you come to Him. Because if you are truly following Jesus, repentance will follow.
Know this: you will never feel like you’re enough. And that’s okay. Because you’re not.
This is why Jesus came and died on the cross. To pay the price for us. He lived the perfect life because He knew we couldn’t. And then He became the perfect sacrifice.
Come as you are. Repent. And live for Christ.
God bless you.
