Inspiration For When You're Unfocused

I’m not sure what’s happening to me this month, but I’ve been all over the place. I have so many things going on that I can’t make heads or tails of any of it. I start one project, then, while in the middle of it, I get an idea and then I start to work on that one. Then, while I’m working on that "one" another idea pops up and I start to work on that one, and on and on it goes.

This behavior has caused me to feel overwhelmed and nonproductive. As I usually do in times like these, I said, enough is enough Mari, now get a grip. So, I decided to take a step back and figure out how best to get out of this dilemma. These are the steps I took.

Journal

I began by writing down all the distracting ideas that kept popping in my head. Once on paper I was able to prioritize accordingly. I could see that some of the ideas that I was working on didn’t need to be done today, or even in the next month. Some of the things were long-time-goals kind of projects that I didn’t need to be concerned with at this time. This took a big weight off my shoulders.

Review and Assess

I then reviewed my bimonthly goals and checked off what I had accomplished thus far, and this alone made me feel so much better. By doing this, I realized that I had managed to check off something that had been on my list for months. This was huge!

Self-Care

I’m not sure why, maybe it's because of summer, but I’ve been slacking a bit on my self-care habits. Meaning, I hadn’t been meditating, journaling or feeling all that positive. So, I got back to the basics. First thing in the morning, I started to meditate and write in my gratitude journal. This allowed my brain to calm down and face the day with a peaceful state of mind, filled with gratitude for myself and all that I do.

So yeah, this has helped clarify some things and now I'm back on track tacking one goal at a time. Do you have ideas on how to get back on track? I would love to hear them. Leave a comment below on what you do to get refocused.
